3/20/2023 0 Comments Imovie vs final cut pro![]() Two apps for different audiencesĪs we told you at the beginning of this post, the fact that iMovie can replace Final Cut Pro depends a lot on the type of user that you will use one of these two applications. Together with LumaFusion, iMovie is the best video editor that you can use on the Apple tablet, since, at the moment, it seems that the Cupertino company has no intention of releasing a version of Final Cut Pro for iPad. In fact, there are many video professionals who can perfectly use this application for their work if they do not require very specific effects or other more sophisticated tools that are only available for Final Cut Pro.Īnother point where iMovie is not able to, is that it has no choice but to replace Final Cut Pro is in the iPad. Although iMovie is focused on a more beginner or basic audience, it has a lots of tools that allows all users to develop all their creativity when it comes to editing video, such as changing the color of videos in iMovie, or simply cropping an image. Obviously, Final Cut Pro It is not indispensable to carry out a great video edition, and that is why on many occasions iMovie can more than fulfill and replace, in that case, the program for professionals. Final Cut Pro is the video editor that Apple has developed for professionals of this sector, while iMovie can be defined as the initial version of Final Cut, that is, that video editing program that Apple makes available to all those users who want to start editing video or that simply, for their audiovisual works, they do not need more. It's been a boon for our training.First of all, what we have to make clear is the difference between these two applications, although later we will talk about it in depth. With FCPX, though, we can push those limits and even venture into video production that was out of the question for us just 3 short years ago. Affording an outside video production company just isn't in the cards when you can get into production internally for such a small amount of money these days. In addition, I've been tasked with quite a few marketing types of pieces and that department is now purchasing their own camera and software.īasically, our industry requires, from time to time, that training be visual in nature. So, FCPX has helped me grow video production internally. We're also building out a studio this year by mid Summer. Again, almost all of what I do is for training via our LMS that is currently serving our 2300+ staff Nationwide. I use FCPX for a variety of pieces ranging from screenshares to projects that I shoot myself and then complete in FCPX and Motion. We were heading in the direction of more video production here in house. ![]() About a year later, we purchased the first Mac ever in this company and with it, Final Cut Pro X (FCPX), Motion, and Compressor. Of course, there were no Macs here in this company at the time. I started here a little over three years ago developing training content primarily with Articulate Storyline and some light video work on Camtasia. Well, primarily it's being used by myself only. I would imagine this is the same issue you would run into with any NLE due to the pressure this puts on your CPU. ![]() ![]() One other note - FCPX is generally very stable, although because you can edit multiple codecs, formats, frame rates on one timeline - when you get into a long-form edit, it can become slow and often crash. Final Cut does become a little more difficult to use on feature film edits when needing to work on multiple audio layers - it does become difficult to manage long form edits with complicated audio, however, that's a problem I recall having with other NLE as well. I've also used Final Cut Pro X to edit music videos, commercials, half-hour TV episodes, and feature films - all of which FCPX performed very fast and well. I find Final Cut Pro X incredibly well suited in an editing environment when there are short recurring video edits - specifically, I found myself reducing the total edit time on a 2-minute web video for a client from 3-4 hours to 1-2 hours when I originally switched from FCP7.
